Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the teeth furthest back along the dental arch. They usually emerge between the ages of 17 to 25, but sometimes, they don't come out at all. Although some patients don't need to have them removed, in many cases, wisdom teeth emerge at the wrong angle or position, leaving no choice but to undergo this surgical procedure to prevent future complications.
Nearly all patients fear the extraction of wisdom teeth. That's why at Chroma Dental, our team of skilled surgeons offers hassle-free wisdom tooth removal surgery to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

The Wisdom Tooth Removal Process
When you begin the removal process, here are a few of the steps you can expect:
- Examining your teeth: as for any other dental procedure, the first step is to examine your wisdom teeth both clinically and radiographically to determine whether their removal is necessary. The main reasons our dentists recommend surgery are abnormal teeth positions or insufficient space for their growth.
- The removal process: wisdom teeth surgery varies according to the situation of the tooth. If it has already come out, it's no different from a conventional extraction. However, if the tooth is impacted, it may require additional steps. Sometimes a small incision is needed to gain access to the tooth, and usually, the dentist needs to cut it into pieces for its removal.
- Aftercare: our dentists will prescribe you some medicines to ease the discomfort after surgery. It is essential to avoid smoking or any kind of physical activity and heavy jobs during the first couple of days. We also advise patients to avoid solid foods during the first week of recovery.

Type of Impacted Wisdom Teeth
As mentioned above, in many cases, third molars don't come. This usually happens due to the lack of space in the dental arch: teeth get trapped inside the jaw and cannot find their way out. Impacted wisdom teeth removal is a more complicated surgical procedure, and it varies according to the position of the molar.
Type of Impacted Wisdom Teeth
- Mesial: the most common type. The tooth is angled forward towards the adjacent molar. Whether it needs to be removed or not depends on the severity of the inclination.
- Distal: the opposite of mesial impactions - the tooth is angled towards the back of the mouth. Whether or not these third molars need to be extracted depends on the angle of impaction. If the angle is slight, it might come out, but if it's closer to 90 degrees, you will likely need wisdom teeth surgery.
- Horizontal: the tooth is angled entirely on its side (horizontally). It is usually the most complicated type of impaction and requires a skilled oral surgeon to remove it.
- Vertical: the tooth has a normal orientation, and there is a high chance it will fit into your smile. Our dentist will recommend wisdom teeth surgery only if the tooth is damaging the neighbouring molar or the jawbone.
Benefits of Removing Wisdom Teeth
Some of the advantages of undergoing wisdom teeth extraction are:
- 1. Fewer orthodontic problems
- 2. Less damage to adjacent teeth
- 3. Lower risk of oral infection
- 4. Prevention of orofacial pain, cysts, and tumours.
